Chamlin Rosen Uliano & Walsh Awards 10th Annual Scholarship – Jessica Anne Buriani
The law firm of Chamlin, Uliano, and Walsh recently awarded its 10th annual college scholarship in the amount of $500 to Jessica Anne Buriani of West Long Branch. Jessica was awarded this scholarship based upon recognition of her essay from among the countless essay contest submissions. Students were challenged to answer, “If I had the power to change or modify an existing law or draft a new law, I would ask the governor to sign the following.” Jessica felt compelled to bypass the governor and state policy and proposed a change to legislation that would alter the way our country elects its president by abolishing the Electoral College. Her meaningful essay touched on flaws inherent in the current electoral process that involve issues related to our voting youth and the nature of our country’s political culture, as well as our country’s role in international politics.
A senior at Shore Regional High School, where she has been a National Honor Society member and on the High Honor Roll since 2006, Jessica has a record of significant involvement in her class’s extracurricular activities. She has been a star athlete, playing on the tennis and lacrosse teams, earning a varsity letter, and was captain her senior year. She has participated in Model United Nations for three years as well as Mock Trial for four years. Further, she has participated in Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) and was a senior editor for her class yearbook. Her record of community service includes involvement with the Interactive Service Club, the Ronald McDonald House and the West Long Branch Food Pantry. Jessica has also found time to be active at her synagogue, Congregation B’Nai Israel, studying and participating in services and youth groups.
