Port Monmouth Middle School Student Injured in Middletown NJ Pedestrian Accident

Authorities are still investigating a pedestrian accident on a Middletown NJ road last month that left a middle school student with serious injuries.

The car accident occurred around 2:45 p.m., just after classes had ended and the student had been dismissed from school for the day. The victim is an 11-year-old boy who attends Thorne Middle School, which is part of the Middletown Township Public School District and is located at 70 Murphy Road in Port Monmouth, New Jersey. (Port Monmouth is an unincorporated community within Middletown Township.)

According to witnesses, the middle school student was attempting to cross the street when a car hit him. The motorist immediately stopped and dialed 911 to alert local law enforcement, which dispatched Middletown police officers and emergency medical responders from Middletown Emergency Medical Services and the Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corporation (MONOC). Emergency crews found the victim suffering from minor lacerations and scrapes across his face and body. The victim was treated at the scene and then transported to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.

Meanwhile, members of the Middletown Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit began an investigation into the pedestrian accident.

Since witnesses told law enforcement that the accident victim was running across the street when he got struck by the car, it is possible that the driver of the vehicle won’t be found to have been at fault for the accident. However, regardless of the outcome of the official police investigation, it remains possible that the parents of the young victim could still file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver and pursue compensation for the student’s medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages.
