The Martindale-Hubbell rating, more than 100 years old, is an independent peer review system that expresses the legal ability and ethics of an attorney or law firm, based upon confidential opinions of other attorneys and judges. The number of years’ experience is the first determining factor in the process, followed by ethical variables including professional conduct, reliability, diligence, performance and expertise in his or her field.
“A,” or “very high to preeminent” is the highest level of accomplishment a lawyer or firm can reach in terms of legal accomplishment. If a lawyer or firm is determined to be highly ethical, a “V” or “very high” is given for ethical standards.
