The truck was situated on the right shoulder of the GSP and was unoccupied at the time of the auto accident.

The driver of the car suffered significant physical injuries as a result of the collision with the dump truck. She was briefly treated at the scene by members of the Holmdel First Aid Squad before being rushed via helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Doctors at the Neptune hospital provided additional medical treatment and stabilized her condition.

After the accident, law enforcement shut down on the express lanes on the GSP for roughly four hours while emergency crews worked to clear the accident scene and remove debris.

Meanwhile, NJ State Police is investigating the truck accident. It is still unclear exactly what might have caused the crash.
