Officials Investigating Car and Bicycle Collision in Freehold

Authorities are currently investigating a serious collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist that occurred in Freehold recently and left the bicyclist with a head injury.

According to Freehold Township Police Lieutenant Lawrence Loos, the car accident in question occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, August 9th at the intersection of Kozloski and Dutch Lane roads in Freehold. 67-year-old Marlboro resident Jackie Goldman was riding her bicycle when she collided with a Jeep Wrangler driven by 60-year-old Colts Neck resident Wilma Emberton.

Goldman suffered a head injury during the crash and was subsequently transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune to receive medical care. Fortunately, her injuries were deemed non-life threatening. Emberton, on the other hand, emerged from the accident uninjured, according to reports.

Officials have yet to determine the cause of the accident. However, if one of the parties involved is found responsible, they may be exposed to civil litigation and held liable for the other individuals’ damages. Damages is a term applied to losses incurred as a result of an accident, including, but not limited to: medical expenses, rehabilitative treatment, necessary future accommodations, loss of income, costs to repair damage to personal property, the “pain and suffering” caused by the injuries, and one’s loss of enjoyment of life.

In order to award monetary compensation for damages, one of the parties involved must be found liable. Liability refers to the individual who is responsible for causing the accident, often deemed “at fault,” or “negligent.” Negligence can refer to any behavior, intentional or unintentional, that causes harm or injury to another person. In the case of an auto accident, negligent driver behavior can include running a red light, speeding, failing to yield, or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The investigation of the aforementioned accident is ongoing and the ultimate determination of law enforcement remains to be seen.
