Two People Killed after Van Crashes on Garden State Parkway in Holmdel, New JerseyTwo people were tragically killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel Township, NJ.

The fatal car accident occurred around 6:46 p.m. According to New Jersey State Police, the victims were among 14 passengers in a 2001 Ford van that flipped over near Exit 117 on the Garden State Parkway. All of the people in the van were reportedly co-workers returning from a work event.

Although it is unclear at this time what might have caused the auto accident, it is believed that the driver of the van lost control of the vehicle for some reason. When the driver lost control, he was travelling in the left northbound express lane on the road. Prior to flipping over, the van reportedly crashed into a guardrail and a cement support structure along the Garden State Parkway.

The two individuals who died as a result of the car wreck were ejected from the van as it flipped on the highway.

A sergeant with the New Jersey State Police later described the aftermath of the car accident as “chaotic.”

Although emergency medical responders with the Holmdel First Aid Squad and other law enforcement personnel arrived at the accident scene shortly after the crash, they were unable to save the lives of the two victims. The two people who died in the car wreck were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Meanwhile, the other passengers in the van sustained serious injuries. According to NJ officials, four of those victims had injuries that required them to be flown via helicopter to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey. At least one of those victims was later listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle is a 58-year-old male from Elizabeth, NJ. He only sustained minor lacerations and other injuries in the crash and was released from the hospital after being treated.

The two deceased victims in the fatal car accident were a 56-year-old woman from Elizabeth NJ and a 30-year-old man from Irvington NJ.

Although there have not yet been any criminal charges filed in the fatal accident, that doesn’t mean that no one is going to be held liable for the fatalities or the injuries suffered by the survivors. In fact, many fatal car accidents can result in civil lawsuits for wrongful death, especially when it is determined that someone acted negligently to cause the car crash.

There could be mitigating factors in the fatal car accident. For instance, the NJ State Police indicated that the weather was stormy and that there was a thunderstorm when the car crash occurred on the GSP.
