South Amboy Man Charged with DWI, Allegedly Drunk When He Caused Car Accident in Marlboro, NJ

A South Amboy NJ man was allegedly drunk when he lost control of his vehicle and caused a serious car accident in Marlboro, New Jersey.

The auto accident occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. According to law enforcement, the suspect was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon along Greenwood Road, near Dawes Avenue, in Marlboro Township, NJ. At some point, the car flipped over, causing one of the vehicle passengers to be thrown onto the roadway. That passenger, a 22-year-old male from South Amboy, NJ, was critically injured in the car crash.

Another passenger in the car, a 22-year-old man from the Morganville area of Marlboro, suffered minor injuries in the single-vehicle crash. He was treated at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the car also sustained minor injuries in the car crash and did not require hospitalization.

Meanwhile, the passenger who ended up being thrown from the vehicle was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, where doctors treated him for critical injuries. At this time, officials have not released any information or updates about his status.

The suspect, a 21-year-old man from South Amboy, was later placed under arrest. He has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) because Marlboro NJ police believe he was intoxicated at the time of the car accident. The suspect has also been cited for a number of traffic violations.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the DWI charges, he would be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:39:4-50, a first offense DWI violation could result in suspension of the offender’s license for a period of three months, a $400 fine, mandatory attendance at an alcohol education class, Motor Vehicle Surcharges of $1,000 every year for three years, and a sentence of 30 days in the Monmouth County Jail. If the suspect, in this case, has prior DWI convictions on his driving record, he could be in store for even more severe penalties.

The Marlboro Township Police Department is actively investigating the DWI accident. Anyone who has information about the car crash is asked to get in touch with Marlboro NJ investigators at 732-536-0100.
