Neptune NJ Police Investigate Two Shootings, including Homicide on Neptune Township StreetPolice are conducting an investigation after a Bradley Beach NJ man was shot and killed on a street in Neptune, New Jersey.

The fatal shooting occurred around 8:18 p.m. According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was standing outside a residence located on the 1300 block of 7th Avenue in Neptune NJ when someone shot him.

The victim sustained a single gunshot wound as a result of the shooting.

Afterward, the victim was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township, NJ. Doctors at the hospital treated him for the gunshot wound. Tragically, doctors were unable to save the victim; he was pronounced dead roughly 90 minutes after being shot.

Just one hour after the fatal shooting, Neptune NJ police got a report of another shooting several blocks away. According to witnesses, someone fired multiple gunshots on Monroe Avenue. Neptune police officers were dispatched to the scene to investigate and came across shell casings. Thankfully, no one was injured as a result of the second shooting.

If a suspect in the first shooting is ultimately identified and apprehended, they would likely face homicide charges. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is the most severely punished crime in the New Jersey Criminal Code. A conviction on first-degree murder charges could result in a sentence of life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years.

It’s also possible that the suspects in both shootings could be charged with weapons offenses like illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Both shooting incidents are being actively investigated by several law enforcement agencies, including the Neptune Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
