Neptune City Man Headed to Prison for Distributing Child Pornography on the Internet

A Neptune City NJ man will be spending several years in state prison after pleading guilty to criminal charges for distribution of child pornography.

The suspect is a 56-year-old man who lives in Neptune City, New Jersey. He was placed under arrest on February 21, 2013 in connection with a major law enforcement operation that targeted individuals allegedly engaging in child pornography distribution over the Internet. That sweep, known as “Operation Ever Vigilant,” involved federal authorities, state police agencies, and local police departments in New Jersey, New York, and several other states. A total of 25 people were arrested as a result of Operation Ever Vigilant.

The Neptune City suspect was one of the people placed under arrest. Detectives with the NJ State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit (DTIU) reportedly caught the suspect uploading to the Internet three videos featuring explicit sexual acts by minors, including videos showing adult males sexually assaulting young girls. The DTIU detectives were later able to trace the child pornography back to a folder hidden on the suspect’s personal computer.

According to prosecutors, the suspect eventually admitted to using file-sharing software to upload the child porn videos and share the illegal images with other people via the Internet.

The suspect could have faced a sentence of up to 10 years in NJ State Prison if he had gone to trial and attempted to fight the felony-level sex crime charges. Instead, the suspect reached a plea deal with Monmouth County prosecutors.

The suspect will still be headed to New Jersey State Prison, but he has managed to avoid the stiffest possible sentence. He recently appeared in Monmouth County Superior Court, located in Freehold, for a formal sentencing hearing. In accordance with the terms of the plea agreement between the suspect and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the superior court judge imposed a sentence of four years in prison.

Additionally, the suspect will be subject to Megan’s Law sex offender registration requirements after he completes his sentence. It is possible that the requirement to register as a convicted sex offender will last for the rest of his life.
