Brielle NJ Man Struck, Killed by Car While Walking Across Route 35

A Brielle New Jersey man died after he was struck by a car while attempting to walk across a highway.

The fatal car accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Route 35 in Brielle, New Jersey. The victim, a 26-year-old man who lives in the borough, was in the process of moving across the northbound lanes on the state highway when a 2013 Lexus crashed into him. It is unclear what might have prompted the Brielle victim to walk on the busy highway in the first place.

The Lexus was driven by an unidentified motorist and headed north on the highway at the time of the tragic pedestrian accident.

After the accident, witnesses dialed 911 and alerted Brielle NJ police to the accident. Brielle cops and emergency medical responders rushed to the scene of the crash. When police and first-aid workers arrived at the scene, they found the victim and immediately transported him to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. However, there was nothing that could be done to save the victim; he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Neptune NJ hospital.

The NJ State Police, the Brielle Police Department, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Analysis Response Team are all actively investigating the fatal auto accident. At this time, law enforcement has not filed any criminal charges against the driver, nor have police issued any traffic citations in connection with the car crash.

It was dark outside when the fatal auto accident occurred, leading to speculation from law enforcement officials that the driver may not have been able to see the pedestrian on the roadway until it was too late.

Regardless of the ultimate conclusions reached by investigators, it is possible that the family members of the victim could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the motorist. A key factor in any wrongful death claim will be the reasonableness of the driver’s actions in the moments leading up to the fatal crash.
