Asbury Park NJ Man Allegedly Caught with Liquid PCP after Violating Final Restraining Order

Ocean Township NJ police recently arrested an Asbury Park man accused of violating a restraining order.

The 32-year-old suspect was a passenger in a car that was pulled over around 10:18 a.m. in the vicinity of the Seaview Square Mall in Ocean Township, New Jersey. When the Ocean Township patrol officer ran a check on the vehicle and the driver, he learned that the driver had a final restraining order (FRO) in effect against the passenger.

Although the driver and the passenger were willingly in the vehicle together, the fact that an order of protection existed meant that the suspect had to be placed under arrest. As a result, the suspect was detained and taken to Ocean Township police headquarters.

When the suspect arrived at the Ocean Township police station, he was searched by police. During the search, police officers allegedly discovered the suspect in possession of a substance believed to be liquid PCP. Liquid PCP is a drug used by smokers to enhance their normal cigarettes when the cigarettes are dipped in the illegal substance. Additionally, liquid PCP is often used to increase the “buzz” of smoking marijuana.

The suspect has been charged with violation of a final restraining order because of his presence in the same vehicle as the person with the protection order. The suspect has also been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) because of the PCP allegedly found by Ocean Township police.

If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charge of violating a restraining order, he could be in store for serious penalties. Once a final restraining order (FRO) has been issued against a person, they cannot violate the terms of the FRO. Doing so could result in a mandatory probation term, while a second or subsequent violation of a protection order could lead to a mandatory term of incarceration.

After being arrested and processed, the suspect secured his release from police custody by posting a $10,000 bail amount. He will have to appear in court at a later date to address the criminal charges against him.
