Violent Crime Rates Decreased in Asbury Park in 2014, Say Authorities

Law enforcement officials recently released a report related to gun violence in Asbury Park, noting a reduction in both homicides and non-fatal shootings in 2014.

Authorities have attributed the notable decline in violent crime rates in Asbury Park to coordinated efforts among the Asbury Park Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and faith-based organizations within the community.

Specifically, 2014 was marked by 1 homicide, 10 shooting victims, and 19 shots fired with no victims. This significant decrease compares to 2013, which saw 4 homicides, 22 shooting victims, and 20 shots fired with no victims.

Apparently, multiple initiatives, such as walking patrols among police officers, the Asbury Park Community Action Network (APCAN) and Asbury Park Community Development Initiative (APCDI) were launched or intensified in 2014.

Considering the variety of criminal offenses classified as violent crimes, this year’s decrease likely means that there were fewer defendants charged with offenses such as homicide, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

All of the aforementioned charges carry severe penalties, which may include a term of incarceration and a period of parole ineligibility for those convicted. The attorneys at Chamlin, Uliano & Walsh regularly defend clients facing these charges throughout Monmouth County. Contact their West Long Branch office at 732-440-3950 if you or someone you love is facing charges.
