Video on Social Media Leads to Terroristic Threats Charges for Man Who Threatened Long Branch Police

Authorities recently arrested a man after a video posted on social media documented him threatening to kill 2 officers from the Long Branch Police Department.

According to a press release from the Long Branch Police, members of the Street Crimes Unit arrested 24-year-old Long Branch resident Jamire Williams outside of his home, located at 136 James Street in Long Branch, on Monday, August 17th. Williams was observed via a video posted on social media which depicted him threatening to kill two specific members of the Long Branch police force.

Williams is now facing a number of serious charges, including 2 counts of terroristic threats and 2 counts of gang criminality. He is currently being detained in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of bail amounting to $240,000. With regard to the crimes for which he is accused, Williams is likely facing 2 third-degree charges for terroristic threats, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3. As a result, each count is punishable by a term of incarceration ranging from 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.

As for the gang criminality charges, the grading for these crimes is highly variable, determined primarily by the underlying crime or crimes associated with the gang activity. According to N.J.S.A. 2C:33-29, the grading of a gang criminality charge is one degree higher than the most serious underlying crime associated with the offense. For example, a charge for gang criminality that originates from a second-degree burglary offense would be enhanced to a first-degree crime. If convicted of both charges, the defendant could be faced with consecutive sentences, one ranging from 5 to 10 years, and the other ranging from 10 to 20 years.

The degree of the charges against Williams remains undisclosed but clearly he is facing serious criminal allegations that may spell catastrophic consequences if he is ultimately convicted.
