Drug Charges

Supplier of Heroin, Cocaine for Monmouth County NJ Drug Trafficking Ring Convicted

A federal trial held in the U.S. District Court in Trenton NJ ended with the defendant being convicted on charges that he distributed illegal drugs, including heroin and cocaine, throughout Monmouth County, New Jersey.

According to federal prosecutors, the 37-year-old suspect supplied heroin and cocaine to a drug trafficking ring that operated in Monmouth County, Ocean County, and elsewhere in New Jersey.

The drug trafficking operation reportedly ran for more than a year, from October 2013 to March 2014, with the suspect helping the network to distribute illicit drugs in several NJ areas, including Monmouth County. The drug distribution ring was named “Britt-Young DTO,” a reference to Robert Britt and Rufus Young, the alleged leaders of the drug trafficking network.

Federal Criminal Charges against Jersey City Man

Authorities said that the suspect, along with another man, would have the drugs shipped from California to an address in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Once the suspect received the packages of heroin and cocaine, he allegedly repackaged the illegal drugs at stash houses located in Asbury Park and Long Branch.

The suspect, who is from Jersey City, NJ, was eventually arrested and charged with numerous drug crimes, including distribution of cocaine, distribution of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, conspiracy to distribute narcotics, and engaging in a transaction involving criminally derived property. Additionally, the suspect was charged with illegal possession of a firearm in the course of committing a drug crime because arresting officers allegedly found him in possession of a handgun.

Now that the suspect has been convicted on the very serious federal criminal charges, he will have to return to the U.S. District Court in Trenton NJ for formal sentencing. When the suspect next appears in the Trenton courthouse, he will face a potential punishment of life imprisonment, as well as a fine of $10 million. Sentencing is scheduled for August 30.
