A convicted sex offender from Toms River NJ was recently arrested after he allegedly failed to adhere to the requirements of his early release from prison.
In 1985, when the suspect was 15 years of age, he raped and murdered a woman in Toms River, New Jersey. The homicide victim was a 13-year-old girl who lived near the suspect. As the victim was walking home from school, the suspect attacked her and raped her. Afterward, the suspect dumped her body in Goose Creek. The victim drowned in the water.
The suspect was convicted of first-degree murder and sexual assault, with the Ocean County Superior Court judge sentencing him to a term of incarceration of 30-50 years. The suspect only served 30 years behind bars because he received time off for good behavior, as well as credit for nearly two years he served in jail before being convicted of homicide and rape.
The rape suspect was recently placed under arrest after he reportedly failed to meet the terms of his release from prison. As a convicted sex offender, the suspect is subject to strict requirements under Megan’s Law. One of those requirements is that the suspect must notify local law enforcement of his current address and his current place of employment. According to authorities, the suspect did not provide his parole officer with an update on his residency or his employment status.
As a result of the suspect’s alleged parole violation, he now faces criminal charges for failing to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law. If the suspect is convicted of violating the terms of Megan’s Law, he could potentially be sentenced to another five years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and charged with Megan’s Law violation, the suspect was remanded to the Ocean County Jail. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $25K bail amount.
