Authorities Investigate Reported Burglary at Holmdel Residence

Authorities have requested the public’s assistance as they investigate a reported burglary at a Holmdel residence.

According to officials from the Holmdel Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home located on Twin Brooks Court in Holmdel after an alleged burglary occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19th. The specific details remain undisclosed, but the alleged offender is said to have stolen jewelry and money from the house before fleeing the scene.

As for the suspect, witnesses portrayed him as a black man wearing a white shirt and khaki pants. He was also reportedly observed traveling in a white sedan that may have been a Mercedes. The Holmdel Police have asked that any and all information related to the incident be forwarded to the department’s Detective Bureau at 732-946-4400.

If a suspect is ultimately identified and taken into custody, he may face charges for burglary and theft. It is important to note the distinction between these offenses, as a burglary charge does not necessitate the commission of an actual theft, but only the intention to commit a theft while unlawfully entering or remaining in a structure or facility. Under N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, burglary is typically classified as a third-degree crime, punishable by a term of incarceration ranging from 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.

On the other hand, theft crimes require the unlawful taking of property, and many times, these charges accompany those for other offenses such as burglary. In contrast to burglary crimes, theft crimes range in severity based on the estimated monetary value associated with the alleged stolen property.

As such, in this case, the value of the jewelry, aggregated with the amount of money allegedly stolen from the Holmdel residence, will determine the degree of the theft charges against the suspect and further, the penalties to which he is exposed if he is ultimately found guilty.
